Our Story
Welcome to my shop, beautiful people!
I am Valeria Bentorkia-Moran, a Mexican-American self-taught artist based in San Francisco, CA. I come from the border towns, Mexicali, Mexico and Calexico, California. Living and crossing between two cultures has inspired most of my artwork. It has also ignited a passion for social justice and encouraged me to advocate for proper representation of immigrants in the United States. My shop is a tribute to my immigrant past, hometown, desert landscapes, Mexican-American culture, migrant workers, San Francisco/Bay area love and environmentalism. I also love honoring my husband's Algerian culture. Our household is multicultural and multilingual. We speak English, Spanish, Arabic, French and Berber. We aim to create products in all languages so there's a little bit for everyone!
"Girasol" is Spanish for Sunflowers. They are my favorite flowers and have a special meaning in my life. Their sunny charm has the power to turn any dull day, bright!
